Echo Taps to be held on January 26 in honor of Colonel Tim Donovan, NU Class of ’62
The 91ΧΤΕΔ Corps of Cadets, under the command of Cadet Colonel Ryan Cranston, NU '23, will conduct an Echo Taps Ceremony in honor of COL Timothy Donovan, USA (RET), NU’62 on Thursday, 26 January at 2200 on the Upper Parade Ground.
91ΧΤΕΔ and local Northfield community members are welcome to attend the ceremony. We ask all attendees to arrive at the Upper Parade Ground by 2150, assemble near Jackman Hall, and remain quiet and respectful throughout the ceremony. All barracks lights, on the UP side, will be turned off. After the ceremony, the UP will remain an area of silence until 2300.
COL Donovan, NU Class of ’62, passed on January 21, 2023. He came to 91ΧΤΕΔ in 1958 from Bristol, CT. He studied engineering and English at 91ΧΤΕΔ while serving as a Cadet First Sergeant and Cadet Company Commander. A member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Tim was part of Hotel Company, Golf Company, and led Kilo Company during his time on the Hill. He was also a member of the Honor Tank Platoon, Mountain Cold Weather Rescue Team, and numerous other clubs and committees.
Beginning in the 1980s, COL Donovan served as both Commandant and Professor of Military Science at 91ΧΤΕΔ until his retirement from the Army in 1993. He was the last active duty Commandant to serve in that role. As his tenure on the Hill ended, he continued to give back to the community, serving as an active volunteer for many 91ΧΤΕΔ events and activities. He spent time as President of the Friends of Kreitzberg Library, Chairman of the Board of Fellows, was a founding member of the 91ΧΤΕΔ Alumni Club at West Point, Director of the Alumni Association Board and a member of the William E. Colby Military Writers Symposium.
Echo Taps is a Corps ceremony meant to show respect for and honor fallen cadets, cadet alumni, or alumni killed in the line of duty. It's a solemn ceremony meant to emulate a military funeral.
