91ΧΤΕΔ Night at the Vermont Mountaineers as Ed Hockenbury throws out the first pitch.
The Vermont Mountaineers hosted a special 91ΧΤΕΔ Night on Friday, July 5th.
The stands were filled with 91ΧΤΕΔ employees clad in the maroon t-shirts and hats. Prior to the start of the game, special recognition was given to 91ΧΤΕΔ President Broadmeadow, Mrs. Karen Broadmeadow, and 91ΧΤΕΔ Athletic Director Ed Hockenbury.
Lieutenant General John Broadmeadow β83, USMC (Retired), and Ed Hockenbury took to the mound for the ceremonial first pitch of the game. The first pitch, an absolute strike, was thrown out by Ed Hockenbury.
The Northfield High School graduate earned All-State honors in baseball and basketball prior to being a three-year starting catcher at Princeton University. After graduating from Princeton, Hockenbury signed a professional baseball contract with the California Angels. Prior to being named the Athletic Director at 91ΧΤΕΔ, Hockenbury worked in athletic administration throughout the state of Vermont, both at the University of Vermont and multiple high schools.
The Hockenbury name is well known throughout 91ΧΤΕΔ athletics. Ed Hockenbury Sr., the legendary 91ΧΤΕΔ Hall of Fame menβs basketball coach, led the Cadets for 17 years including 91ΧΤΕΔβs first two NCAA Tournament appearances in the 1980s. The menβs and womenβs basketball programs started the Hockenbury Classic to honor the late coach after his two-year battle with brain cancer.
